Other than the barcode system, there is another kind of system that is used for time and attendance. This is the RFID system. In this system, there is an RFID time clock and each employee has a card that can be scanned and the employee can be checked into the system. Time and attendance software is used for this system as well and after the data is collected and stored, it goes into the software for further processing where it becomes even more valuable for the users of the software and the managers. This system is also easy to implement and the cost is not high.
While both these systems have a lot of advantages, there is also the fact that they cannot ensure that there is no time theft on part of the employees. In addition, they have no effective way of monitoring against buddy punching, which is very common in many organizations. When an organization uses one of these systems, there is the cost of the equipment and the software and there is also the cost of the badges with the barcode or RFID that have to be made and issued to the employees and then maintained and repaired.
Besides RFID and barcode systems, there exists another Time and Attendance Systems, which is based on biometric technology. This uses employees’ physical attributes like irises and fingerprints for identification. While this system may be more expensive than the other systems, its best advantage is that it eliminates buddy punching and there is also not cost of the badges and their maintenance, as required by the other two Time and Attendance Systems.
